Productivity Series – #02

I'm Workin' Here... I'm Workin' 😎

We are so close to the next weekend that I can feel the reckless-ness-ness coming, can't you? For now though, Chill Music Lab have some great vibes in their latest release to help us stay focused on our important tasks still to come. Hope you enjoy this track from them as we look at the next part of our Productivity Series. Here we go.

The Big Picture

OK so let's say you have an awesome project that you want to work on, and decide that you need a team of people (big or small) and a range of different computer stations that are going to help your team work effectively on whatever tasks they have going on. Since the options are limitless, what might that look like? Well I'm going to talk about different types of stations rather than specific task-sets and workflows.

Front Desk

By 'front desk', I mean not just reception but also general admin type tasks like finance, sales and so on.

For these workflows, we will look at a generalist type of system that gaming enthusiasts might consider as a 'budget' system, although these will be specifically built to be easily maintained and configured as well as being small form factor (e.g. using the InWin type ITX case, among the many options).

Technical Station

The next type of system will be referred to here as a technical station, because despite the huge range of tasks that different work environments might need, this type of system is one of the more common types found in workplaces. The key here will be to have systems that are both easily maintained and able to hold more demanding components. And so cases similar to the Thermaltake Versa H22 might be used (as an example only),

High-End Workstation

The next level of system is one that I would refer to as a high-end workstation. By 'high-end', I am referring mainly to the type of internal components and their need to handle very demanding technical tasks that require things like multiple graphic cards and more extensive motherboard options, for example. And so these might be larger and usually far more expensive that what might be included in the technical category (perhaps using a case like the Fractal XL shown here).

Server Network

Finally, we will consider an area that most people don't usually think about when planning out a typical workspace for a team. This is the server network and the different types of systems that might make up this type of backbone in a team's computer framework. There are so many options here, as with the other categories above, that we will also be generalising quite a lot in order to keep things as simple as possible. Or at least, simple enough for brains like mine with three functioning brain cells on a good day 🙂

And The Rest?

Of course, what comes next is my devilish plans for world conquest as I advance the evils of science and merge these with the mwahaha-levels of tyranical technical test-tubery that systems like those above may one day unleash upon us all.

I quake, peeps 😉

Stay awesome,

EMH
