Next Gen Concepts

Perspective

I remember attending a design workshop a while ago where the instructor spoke about the importance of understanding the current state-of-play and emerging trends, then projecting forward to where these things appear to be headed for the future. This is important when you are trying to enter a new market that already has some existing players. It's even more important if you are bringing something completely novel to the table and building a new market from scratch.

So I ask myself some questions whenever looking at a new task: (a) "What has already been done in the past?"; (b) "What is currently being done and why did it progress?"; (c) "What are the relevant emerging trends within the space?"; and (d) "Where does my work need to be in X weeks/months/years?".

The Right Tools

Today I wanted to show you some of the tools I'm using to flesh out concepts for MOOVPAD. In the screenshot we have:

Visual Studio - for coding

Figma and Illustrator - For 2D design system and visualisation

3DS Max/Blender - for 3D design

There are other tools also but these four are really the backbone for me when conceptualising applications of the underlying science (if that makes any sense). I won't give too much away moving forward, simply because much of the applied levels need optimisations and changes to keep them at the forefront. But I wanted to share the basic idea.
