New Software

Creative Chill 😎

Hope you guys enjoy this nice mellow 24/7 track as I tell you about some of the new things I'm trying when it comes to software on the Linux platform and what their equivalent is on the Windows OS.

Let's see...

Inkscape

As far as I can tell, Inkscape is supposedly the best Linux alternative to Adobe Illustrator. I still use Adobe Creative Cloud apps on Windows, and not thinking of changing that anytime soon. But when I'm on Linux, it's good to have a solution available for vector graphics, and I may have found one. Only trial and error will tell how good it is.

GIMP

Photo editing is next, and although I don't do too much of that at all, I wanted something that I could use just to prepare images for posting. GIMP is currently seen as the accepted alternative to Photoshop. I'll only be using it very rarely, but I'll be sure to fill you in as to what I find.

Krita

The other software package mentioned when looking for Linux-based Image editors was Krita. It seems that it's more about digital painting rather than being focused on image editing, but it is apparently growing in popularity because the UI appears to be easier.

As I said earlier, I'm not completely ditching Windows OS or Adobe Creative Cloud. But if I'm going to try Linux Ubuntu properly, I needed to be able to have comparable tasks that could be done on both systems. VS Code, Blender and Unity were just a start, and these additional packages will help me get a better feel for the differences and advantages of each.

Stay awesome,

EMH
