230729 – Gauge Update Stage 4

Afternoon Prep 😎

The morning session gave me a chance to get some more work done on the graphics for the gauge, and I'm just getting set up for the next coding block today. Here's another of those always awesome Chill Music Lab vibes for our work while we see what I'm working on next 🙂

Mechano-Physiologic WO

With speed and incline (as examples for cardiovascular exercise), it's relatively easy to have preset benchmarks for MOOVPAD users to follow as guides. However mechano-physiologic work output (MPWO) is different, because it relies on action rates. So for example, a tall person with a long stride may take less steps than a shorter person at the same speed.

This was one of the main points for my planned review of all the different MOOVPAD project elements, and is going to be the focus of the next coding session. Because there's a wide variability in action rates for different exercise modes, I wasn't able to find any useful, reliable research (which isn't a surprise given the complexity of setting up that kind of investigation). So for now, I'm going to be using some arbitrary milestones for the presets based on what I believe may be common action rates. This problem won't be an issue for comparisons made to the user's own performance during previous sessions, only for presets. So the work continues, and I hope you guys have a great day and weekend 🙂

Stay awesome,

EMH

HOW MOOVPAD IS BEING BUILT

For the overview of how MOOVPAD apps are being developed, the reasoning behind particular decisions during development, policies, links to the science and research at the core of MOOVPAD, and more in relation to all the technical things, please see the link to the left.

This will be an ongoing work in progress, and will always be linked to the bottom of each upcoming Blog post.
