Blender x Unity – Building Scenes

Hope everyone is having a great day so far, and ready to go get it. Me, I've been planning some creative work as well as getting ready for a day of coding ahead.

This is the track playing right now as I share some of the scene building on my end...

Building Objects

The scene being built and shown at the top is the start of a project I'll reveal sometime in the future. For now though, just wanted to show you the process involved in starting off. To the left is a screen shot from Blender showing the building of the rings as separate pieces brought together to forms each ring. These are then simply duplicated as many times as necessary. Notice I said duplicated rather than copied, since creating duplicates means any material/texture changes only need to be made to the principle object if the others are duplicates.

Test Export Into Unity

To the right is a screenshot from within Unity showing the basic ring object once it has been imported as an FBX file, which was created in Blender. I used the FBX file type to ensure proper export/import, and made sure to set the origin correctly and adjusted positioning and rotations accordingly.

Ongoing Prototyping

From this point on, it's really a matter of continuing to build out the scene as needed and then either animating the scene in Blender or taking objects across into Unity for use there.
