3D Fun – 21.09.14 Pt 1

Cyber Chill 😎

In keeping with tonight's theme, I hope you enjoy this track from the guys at Music Lab, who just seem to "get it" when it comes to the combo of vibes and visuals.

Meanwhile, let's see some of the happenings so far tonight with all the 3D adventures...

Building Models

Earlier today I showed you guys the button sample here which was built in Blender fairly quickly and simply. The light emissive properties are relatively easy for me to set now as well as basic materials and effects. That's the good news when it comes to Blender. You should be able to see the light difference between the two images pretty clearly.

Exporting Models

The other bit of good news is that it's pretty easy to build in Blender and then export the models. However the materials and effects don't export with the model, and so these will be done separately in Unity. As you can see in these smaller images, I've already exported the sample button above with no problems and then set the appropriate materials. If they look different, remember that what these later images are showing is the light from the default Unity scene being cast on and through the objects, not emissive light from the objects like the earlier pictures show from Blender.

Next Up (yes, like the button...)

I plan on going further into Unity tonight to work on some basic scripts for setting the types of modifiers above, and I found a couple of samples to test out which might help.

Catch you up with progress again soon.

Stay awesome,
