Basic Shaping/Modelling
Now hear me out before you jump to conclusions. So far, I've learned to model fairly complex objects, use a range of tools, and work with the Blender interface. To the right is the object view of the vwum vwum before any effects were added. As you can see, at that point everything looked perfectly normal, right? see that? Normzies.

Camera and Lighting
Unlike the larger image down below where I manually posed the object in the window and then took a screen shot, these two images were taken from a camera in Blender, and the lighting was added for effects. Once again, all is going along pretty sweet. No issues to be seen anywhere and no obvious concerns. See how nice and clean everything looks?...

UV Unwrap
In the larger pic above, you can see the view I got just before I attempted the UV unwrapping of the object to add textures. Now up until that point, I had a few niggles with the tutorial using an older version of Blender than the one I have, and so I got sick of looking for the tools that the very experienced and knowledgable presenter was talking about, and decided I would try and find other solutions. We already agreed in the pics above that all looked good, so far, yes? Do you guys see anything wrong to that point? Thought not. And then... the UV unwrapping was done.

Does anyone wanna tell me what the hell that is? Seriously.
Lessons Learned:
Where possible, don't use a tutorial with an older version of the program you want to learn beyond the very basics. Because now my vwum vwum is not lit. Very not lit 🙁
Also, Blender is still awesome 😀
For the things I needed to learn anyway, Blender will more than handle the requirements. I'll just keep practicing as I go and might try other options too just to see the differences and whether or not there are more recent tutorials for them.
Stay awesome,
EMH
