Absolute Beginner's Beginning
If you've never used Blender or are fairly new, this tutorial covers the absolute basics of things like workspace setup, working with viewports, and so on. I just had to refer back to it myself because I forgot some commands. So if you're going to give Blender a go, keep something like this handy at first.
Building Treasure Chest
This is the tutorial that guides you through this project of building a treasure chest. The main skills covered include face, edge and vertex manipulation, extrusion, bevelling, cutting and a few other basic things. Just allow a bit more time than the actual tutorial video though.
...and... da Vinchi who? 🤪
OK I know it's extremely basic and yes, anyone with the time and patience can do it, so I'm not claiming to be the next Picasso of the 3D world or anything. It really wasn't hard to get this object done. The tutorials are pretty easy to follow although in the second one above, you might need to pause a lot to catch up on progress because the presenter can be really fast sometimes.
But for something to do creatively, and if you have the time to spare or just want to change pace from your regular tasks, I can highly recommend 3D modelling for the satisfaction it gives at the end of a project (even something this simple).
Next up... writing some code!
Stay awesome,

P.S. available for feature film special effects art executive roles (and if they don't have that role yet, I just made it). You listening, Spielberg? Your next movie... space pirates! Call me.
